I know, I know, I know – – – I have blogged about ELDOA before. However, in the past few months I have witnessed the FULL power of this amazing method. To refresh your memory, ELDOA is a technique designed by French Osteopath Dr. Guy Voyer. ELDOA stands for Longitudinal Osteoarticular Decoaptation Stretches. Taken from the French acronym, Etirements Longitudinaux aver Decoaptation Osteo-Articulaire.
ELDOA may sound very complicated and to be honest the specific poses can have many intricate instructions and intricacies, (this is why only a certified ELDOA Instructor should teach these exercises) but the concept is rather easy. ELDOA is simply designed to “ACTIVELY” decompress joints. Most therapists use passive decompression such as manual traction, traction machines and traction tables. However, in my experience, passive traction actually causes more problems than it helps and at times people experience a phenomena called “rebound effect” increasing pain and dysfunction.
