When reflecting on the hundreds of golfers that have hired H3 for various issues, many scenarios come to mind — the longing to hit the ball further, an issue with the body affecting golf swing mechanics or an injury that is impeding participation in the game. However when analyzed closer, one overwhelming reason rises to the top and that reason is for longevity in the game of golf. Golf is a game that should be enjoyed until the day one leaves this earth. Golfers know exactly what I’m talking about. Golf is played with a passion unlike any other sport and it is devastating the day one’s golfing prowess ends.
What is Soma Golf? Soma simply means body. Soma Golf is a brand new continuing education course developed by world renowned MD, DO, and therapist Guy Voyer. The class is being hosted by Janet Alexander who is a member of the TPI Advisory Board and myself. Since Janet and I live in the world of golf performance and rehab we are extremely excited to be a part of this amazing series. Soma Golf 1 will take place November 20-22, 2015 in Fort Lauderdale, FL at the stunning Marriott Harbor Beach.
Longevity In Golf
What does longevity in the game of golf have to so with Soma Golf? In conjunction with my physical therapy degree, CHEK Faculty status, TPI background and numerous other certifications, I have taken 25 courses from Dr. Voyer in the last 3 years. The main difference between Dr. Voyer’s classes and all the others is his focus on the fascia of the body and the implementation of the tensegrity model. In my opinion it is the treatment of the fascia via the tensegrity model that absolutely will allow you to play the greatest game ever invented for the rest of your life.
Soma Golf 1
As stated above, Soma Golf 1 will take place November 20-22, 2015 in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Soma Golf 1 covers the lower extremity as it pertains to golf and rotary athletes in general. Dr. Voyer will begin each morning with a review of tensegrity anatomy and biomechanics as well as relationship anatomy. Following the review, Dr. Voyer will unveil many of his techniques focusing on the lower extremity. These techniques include analytical segmental strengthening, myofascial stretching (MFS), ELDOA, proprioception and awareness, global postural stretching (GPS) and global dynamic normalization (GDN). These techniques plus how to warm up prior to golf and what to do immediately following workouts and playing golf will increase golf performance, correct and prevent disorders, all working towards LONGEVITY of the game.
